     Together women can reach 50/50 by 2020.  This is the new rallying cry for women’s equality across the country.  In Missouri, we can achieve political equality in the Missouri House of Representatives by 2020 IF together we work hard and donate monthly.
     To reach 50/50, Misssouri Women’s Leadership Coalition (MWLC) is working a targeted plan and launching a Sustaining Donors program to fund it.  We need a reliable income through the next SIX elections -- starting in 2010 -- ending in 2020.  $10,  $20 or $50 from each of us monthly will do it.  Read on.

     Check the math.  There are 36 women in the Missouri House today out of 163 seats -- an un-empowered minority. Forty five women short of equality.  We must elect 7 to 8 women each election year through 2020 - that’s 6 elections - and we can reach 50 percent.  Elected women who are termed out must replace themselves with another woman -- that’s the secondary campaign.  The goal of 8 NEW annually is not easy, but that’s MWLC’s target. With your help.
     Read the major Missouri newspapers. They’re filled with scandals and bad legislation simmering in Jefferson City.  Amazingly, none of the perps are women.  It’s a perfect climate to elect women of strength, intelligence and integrity.  
     More women must run.  In 2008 only one woman for every four men ran for a seat in the Missouri House. Fair is fair. You can’t reach equality with fewer candidates.  Women’s groups like AAUW,  Business Women of Missouri, the Women’s Political Caucus and others must encourage members to consider political office. And MWLC must continue to recruit perpetually.  We will send a speaker to your meeting.
     MWLC is a women’s rights organization, we’re eager to help progressive, proChoice, pro ERA women get started.  Statistics indicate that prospective women need to be ASKED to run.  Find an ideal woman candidate and MWLC will help ASK her to run.
